Review - The Huntress

Came in on a Tuesday night around 9pm, and it was pretty quiet. They have a solid beer list, which is great, but the overall experience was just okay.

To begin with, it's a good looking bar. But that seems to be the trend these days in the newer parts of NYC: all looks with little substance.

My biggest frustration was the menu system. They only use QR codes, which is a trend that seriously needs to go away. It’s inconvenient, and the menus themselves were poorly formatted. The food menu was tiny and hard to read on my phone, and the beer menu was just a clunky, scrolling Untappd feed. They already have TVs everywhere—why not just mount one with the tap list?

When we asked the bartender for a beer recommendation, they specifically said they didn't know anything about the beers on tap, which was disappointing for a place that seems to focus on its beer selection.

The food (fries and fried chicken) was decent, but that and two beers came out to $50. To top it off, the payment system was set to only offer gratuity options of 20% and up, which felt pretty forced.

It's a fine spot, but the frustrating QR codes and service gaps definitely held it back from being great.
